in Football

On Sunday morning, Gaines Adams, defensive lineman of the Chicago Bears, died in South Carolina at the age of 26. According to the Chicago Bears, this player died at Self Regional Hospital.

Greenwood County's Chief deputy coroner Marcia Kelley-Clark told that Adams's heart did not beat approximately one hour before he arrived at his family's home in Greenwood. The coroner concluded that Adams had an enlarged heart after he conducted autopsy about the death. More importantly, enlarged heart can result in heart attack. However, nobody knew about the condition of Adams, even his relatives.

Kelley-Clark said that the State Law Enforcement Division is taking toxicology tests about the death of the unlucky young player although drug use was not suspected as a factor in his death.

The Bears stated that it was stunned and saddened by the news of Adams's death. Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune that Adams' death was "crazy."

Talking about the death of Adams, Tommy Bowden who was Adams' head coach said that he would never forget Adams' smile and his patience. He could not believe that Adams had passed away.

Clemson fans came to know Gaines Adams for his breaking up Wake Forest's field goal try and returning it for a touchdown in 2006 to defeat the Demon Deacons.

After amassing 28 career sacks at Clemson, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Adams fourth overall in the 2007 NFL draft. He logged 83 tackles and 12.5 sacks in three seasons with the Buccaneers before being traded to the Chicago Bears in October of 2009. At Chicago, Adams had only 17 tackles and one sack in 15 games in the season. These records did not live up to his expectations.

Gaines Adams was just 26 years old and his height was 6-foot-5 weighing 260 pounds. At 26, this is what Gaines Adams was left with: warm words from people who knew him, countered by cold numbers on an NFL stat sheet.
